Frequently asked questions

Who is entitled to a premium subsidy?

People of modest means. Each canton sets its own income limits and procedure. For children and young adults in education from low- and middle-income families, cantons must reduce the premium by at least 80% and 50% respectively (Health Insurance Act).

How do I apply for a premium subsidy?

At the office of your canton of residence (list on this page). Some cantons check entitlement automatically from tax data; in others you must apply; deadlines are cantonal.

How is the subsidy paid?

The canton pays the amount directly to your health insurer; your premium bill is reduced accordingly.
